Spelling Bee Contest 2026: A Celebration of Letters, Effort, and Courage!

Spelling Bee Contest 2026: A Celebration of Letters, Effort, and Courage!

On June 9th, 10th and 12th, the Santo Tomás Auditorium became the stage for one of the most anticipated events of the academic year: the Third Edition of the Spelling Bee Contest. With the participation of students from both Elementary and Jr High Sections, this exciting competition brought together families, teachers, and students in a vibrant celebration of language, learning, and perseverance. 🔤🏆

The event was opened by English Coordinator Leticia González, who welcomed the youngest participants from Lower Elementary with warmth and encouragement. Her words set the tone for three days of emotion, effort, and unforgettable moments. From the very first round, the atmosphere was electric — parents watched with nervous anticipation, teachers offered quiet words of support, and students stepped up to the microphone with hope and determination.

Teacher Iván Valdés, Auxiliar Coordinator of the English Academy, directed the Jury, which was composed of dedicated teachers from both sections, including René, Alexei, Lizbeidy, Caro, Chava, and Itzel. Together, they listened carefully to each word, delivered the verdict, and when necessary, offered clear explanations of spelling rules and common mistakes — turning each round into a learning opportunity.

The contest followed a structured format: a “Practice Round” allowed all participants to warm up and gain confidence. Then, the competition truly began. With each round, the difficulty increased, and students were eliminated one by one. The tension in the room was palpable — a mix of silence, whispers, and occasional gasps — as contestants spelled words ranging from everyday vocabulary to challenging terms like “sovereignty”.

Every group had its memorable moments. There were ironic mistakes in a “Sudden Death” round that left the audience in disbelief, as well as stunning displays of spelling accuracy that earned rounds of applause. Each teacher took turns announcing the words for their own students, guiding them through the process with patience and encouragement. At the microphone, contestants paused, took a breath, and gave their best — sometimes with a smile, sometimes with visible nerves, but always with courage.

The Spelling Bee Contest 2026 was more than a competition. It was a testament to the dedication of our students, the commitment of our teachers, and the unwavering support of our families. Every letter spelled represented months of practice, and every elimination was met with respect and admiration.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participants, and our deepest gratitude to the teachers and staff who made this event possible. To our winners and to every student who stepped onto that stage: you have made us proud.

Know yourself, accept yourself, and grow beyond.
